They stay with your company because they want to stay and are among the most committed. Employees who are sticking with your company because they are afraid to leave even though they dislike their jobs will be with you forever, perform the minimum necessary, but never become your stars. The irony is that the most committed of your employees are among the most disloyal. It’s those who swear allegiance that you need to worry about.

一番できる社員とは、実はいつでもどこでも仕事を見つけることができる自信を持ち、何の不安も感じていないような人々です。彼らが今の会社に留まっているのは単にそうしたいから、というのが理由で、実はこういった社員こそが一番献身的だと言えます。逆に仕事を嫌いながらも現状を失うのが怖いという理由から会社にしがみついている社員は、最低限の仕事はこなしても、会社に貢献するようにはなりません。皮肉にも会社に献身的な社員こそが、実は一番忠実ではない、という訳です。忠実そうに見える社員にこそ、注意を払う必要があるのです。
